The Authority was founded in 1989.

The Greenbrier County Solid Waste Authority (GCSWA) in West Virginia plays a vital role in managing and promoting responsible waste disposal and recycling practices across the county.

As a publicly supported entity, the GCSWA oversees the county landfill, facilitates environmental education, and coordinates with local residents, businesses, and municipalities to reduce landfill impact through sustainable waste management programs.

The Authority is committed to safeguarding the natural beauty of Greenbrier County by encouraging recycling, proper hazardous waste handling, and community engagement in keeping the region clean, healthy, and environmentally conscious.
